I'm back and here to stay :)

I may not be the best writer or the most creative blogger.  But I enjoy it.  Lately I have been feeling a bit down about the blogging because their are some people in my life that "indirectly" make me feel like I'm not good enough...

I never started blogging because I thought my ideas were worth listening to.  I started because I like the outlet to vent and share with the cyber world.  I guess the reason my "creative juices" have been M.I.A is because I have let certain people make me feel inadequate.  I shouldn't care what one or two people think... Most of the people in my life are very supportive of everything I do and these people make it easy for me to continue.

I was told once that you can't control other people's actions, but you can control your own reactions.  So instead of letting people bring me down, I will make the choice to look past that and do what I love.  It's funny how one negative comment can disguise a 100 positive ones.

So from now on, I will continue to blog because I like too.  It may be poorly written and it may not be of interest to anyone but myself... and I am ok with that.  I will no longer let one person make me feel that I am not good enough.

Hump Day Favourites!

Most of my favourite bloggers have a day of the week where they blog about something specific.  Some blog about outfits while others blog about recipes.  I wanted to start a weekly post about something but couldn't pinpoint exactly what I wanted the topic to be.  So, I decided that every hump day Wednesday, I would blog about things I find TOTALLY AWESOME!  I figured Wednesday's were best because those of us who work Mon-Fri need a little something to get us through the rest of the week.

So here goes my first blog post for "Hump Day Favourties!":

New Year.. New Me!!!

I never really believed in New Year's resolutions because in the past I always found it hard to stick to the goals I would set for myself.  But this year, I decided that anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it. There is no such thing as an unrealistic goal and with the right amount of work and effort, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.  So....

Here is my list for 2012:

#1- Get in better shape.  Lately my workout routines have been a bit of a roller coaster ride.  Some weeks I am on and others, well I just can't seem to find the energy.  This year there are no excuses.  Jeffrey has promised he would help by being my partner in crime.  Together we are going to start P90X and running outside when it's not a blizzard or -40 degrees Celsius.  My goal is to reach my target weight and tone from head to toe.  I am hoping to reach this goal by the beginning of March.

Dream body from previous post :)  Tattoo's and all ;)

#2- Eat healthier.  Today, I sat down and planned out our meals for the week and then went grocery shopping.  This way I only picked up what was needed.  I am sending all the candy and sweets that are left over from the holidays to work with Jeffrey.  I figured the boys at the shop will appreciate it as will my self control :)  Since I started drinking coffee, my appetite in the morning has diminished and breakfast usually gets forgotten.  So starting tomorrow, breakfast will be a daily thing, even if its just a banana and a yogurt.  I need something to start the day and my metabolism off right.

#3- Pay off a large chunk of debt.  After being a professional student for many years, it is time to pay off the debt I accumulated.  There is so much travelling I want to do but find it hard to justify doing it when I have all this money that needs to be paid off.  So this is my year to put a dent in the debt.  Instead of buying that really cute pair of shoes or over sized comfy sweater from Victoria's Secret, I will opt to put that money towards my debt.  So, if you see the same outfit appear on facebook photo's over and over again, it is because I am getting that much closer to paying off debt and travelling the world ;)

#4- Finish the house.  Ok, maybe not the WHOLE house because realistically you need $$$ for that and if you look at goal #3, money is currently being occupied.  But, little by little, we should be able to get a big portion of the house complete.  Our kitchen is FINALLY done, which is an AMAZING feeling.  Next we are focusing on our shower.  As much as a relaxing bath is nice, it does not suffice when you are in a hurry in the morning.  Once our shower is in and working our focus will turn to the little things, such as doors, baseboards, etc.

#5- Cross AT LEAST five things off my bucket list.  I already have a trip planned to New Orleans so that one is a given.  I would also like to achieve my dream body, start a snowball fight, dance in the rain, and learn to ride a motorbike.  Of course I picked the most achievable so I'll throw in one more and hope to reach it.  I chose... Meet Ryan Gosling (a girl can dream) :)

I know I'm not the only person with big New Year’s resolutions. Just by reading facebook and twitter statuses I can tell that there are millions of people who want to make 2012 their breakthrough year. I believe that if we all put our minds to it and work hard to achieve it, we can accomplish anything!!
Cheers to a year of countless possibilities!!!

Hello Stranger!

So, I've sorta been M.I.A this month from the blogging world.  It's not that I haven't wanted to blog but I have been dealing with a bad internet connection combined with a jam packed schedule.  With work, my birthday, and hosting our first Christmas Eve party... this month has been INSANE!

But, now that it is December 26th and Christmas is over I have FINALLY found time to sit down and write... Guess what though?  I have writers block... I can't think of ANYTHING to blog about... the girl who can't shut up in real life, is finding it hard to talk in the cyber world.  I mean I could write about my birthday or my first Christmas Eve party.. but I just don't feel like it... Don't get me wrong, Christmas and my birthday were amazing and I find each year, although I get older (eww), the holiday's get better and better.  I enjoy forming new traditions with my little family (Jeffrey and Goober) and also sharing old traditions with Jeffrey's family and my own.

Anywho, I will find some creative juices once I exit this fireplace coma I am temporarily in and blog about something REALLY REALLY interesting and important... or maybe not.. but I sure will write about something... until then... ciao

The crazy world we live in...

Last night I was out with my mom and sister. As we were driving around town we got into a discussion on how technology has taken over. My mom remembers the days when to go on a date, you had to call the person and ask them. To many of us, that sounds ancient. Isn't it funny that technology has made it hard for people to have voice conversations? So many of us rely on text messages or facebook to "flirt" or "get to to know someone". But I am sorry, written words can always be misinterpreted and one really doesn't get a sense of personality through a text. Some people say its easier to text than to call. That is FALSE. It takes longer to type a message, hit send and WAIT for a reply, then to call someone and just ASK!

This lack of "real life" communication makes me wonder if this has something to do with the rising number of young people who find it hard to interact socially at school or in their home life. Could computers, cell phones, and xboxes be taking away this important human function? I have friends that date people through text messages. They never speak on the phone and only make plans to see each other through text messages. It even gets to the point that if they need to call, they are nervous about it even though they have been dating for 6 months. Seems silly to me.

A study was done on the effects of social networking on college and university students. The results came back that many students were failing classes because of their addiction to "facebook" or other social networking websites. Students were spending too much time on the computer and not enough time in the classrooms.

Now don't get me wrong, I do think that social networking is genius for many reasons. If I was totally against it, I would not be blogging. I love the opportunity to tell the world (or in my case my 7 followers) my views on life. I like being able to reconnect with friends through facebook. I enjoy seeing where they have travelled and what they have been up to. Without social networking, I may never of had the opportunity to reconnect with so many amazing people. I feel blessed to live in this era and to be able to experience such crazy advances in technology.

As much as I complain about people who text too much, I am just as guilty. I am not much of a phone person so I would rather make plans through a text so that I'm not stuck talking on the phone. I do however enjoy the company and conversation of friends and family. I have not become a victim of "social awkwardness" due to "social networking".

I am interested to see what will come next. I am interested to see what the long term effects of technology will have on this generation. Sometimes technology amazes me and a lot of the time it scares the heck out of me. Maybe next year, we'll be falling in love with robot people and have no clue they are not real... then again, probably not.

True meaning of Christmas...

My sister and I were talking the other day and realized how carried away people get with buying and receiving presents for Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I do love receiving and I especially love giving but I feel that the true meaning of Christmas gets lost!

Christmas is about coming together. Putting aside all the stresses of real life and enjoying each others company. Christmas is about family, friends, and especially MAGIC!

I think the magic part was where the presents came in. How exciting is it to be a kid waking up on Christmas morning to see if Santa had arrived? I look back and I don't really remember all the presents I received because it was just stuff. I remember the way I felt. I remember the magic. For children, presents are part of the magic and I notice that some children get carried away with the presents and never really get to appreciate the magic.

When I was a kid, every Christmas Eve my twin sister and I would stay up all night listening to the Christmas music on the radio. We couldn't fall asleep because we were too excited for Santa to arrive. We eventually would give in to our heavy eyes and wander off. But, at the crack of dawn we were wide awake and couldn't wait any longer to see if Santa had come. My parents would let us take turns each year to be the first to go downstairs to see if there was evidence that Santa had arrived. It was probably my most favourite part of that morning. When it was my chance to see, I would RUN upstairs yelling, "Santa was here, Santa was here!!!!" It was such an exciting time. My mom and dad would make their coffee and torture us a bit longer by making us wait till that was done. I can only imagine how exciting it must of been for them to see us opening our presents with such joy and excitement.

My parents really did a good job at making Christmas magical. They told us stories of when they were young and heard the reindeer on the roof, they made sure the cookies and milk left out for Santa was half eaten with crumbs. Some years my mom even dipped my dad's shoes in flour and had him walk through the house. The magic was the best part; My most favourite memories.

I think as we get older we tend to forget about the magical aspect Christmas brings. I hope this post can help us all remember what it was like to be a kid and believing in the magic of Christmas. Although some may not believe that Santa really exists, I do! Santa doesn't have to be a person who travels the world in one night. Santa is the magic and the magic is what makes Christmas special.

So this holiday season, bring some magic into your household. Watch Christmas movies, go for snowy walks, tell stories from your childhood, play games, start a new tradition. Christmas doesn't have to be about burning holes in your pockets, let it be about the important things; Family, friends, traditions, and of course, MAGIC!
